Who does concrete resurfacing in St. George?

Is my concrete a candidate for resurfacing, or does it need replacing?
Resurfacing fixes problems that live in the top of the slab: scaling, pitting, spalled patches, shallow cracks, staining that will not clean out, and color that has gone patchy or dated. It does not fix problems in the slab itself. Concrete that has heaved or sunk, cracks where one side sits higher than the other, cracks that keep getting wider, and concrete crumbling through its full depth all point to movement underneath. What does patio and pool deck resurfacing involve?
The slab is ground or profiled so the overlay can bond, cracks are treated, a bonding primer goes down, and the overlay is applied and finished to the texture you choose. On pool decks two things matter most here. The finish needs texture so it stays slip resistant when wet, and lighter colors stay noticeably cooler underfoot in July than dark ones. We also keep the deck and patio expansion joints open rather than overlaying across them, because a joint that gets covered will crack the new surface along the same line within a season.
How long does resurfaced concrete last?
A resurfaced patio or pool deck on a sound slab lasts for many years, and the factors that shorten that life are predictable. The bond has to be right, which is decided during prep. Joints and moving cracks have to be honored rather than buried. And the sealer on top has to be maintained, since it is the layer that takes the UV, pool chemicals, and foot traffic so the overlay does not. Resealing every few years is far less work than resurfacing again, and it is the single biggest thing an owner can do to keep a resurfaced surface looking new.

Will the cracks come back through the new surface?
Some can, and an honest answer depends on the crack. A crack that has stopped moving gets treated and filled during prep, and the overlay covers it for good. A crack that is still moving with the soil or the seasons will usually telegraph back through anything put over it, because the overlay is bonded to the slab and moves with it. We treat moving cracks with flexible material and, where it makes sense, turn them into a deliberate joint line rather than pretend they are not there.
Can resurfacing fix concrete that has sunk or heaved?
No. An overlay is typically a quarter to half an inch thick and follows the slab under it, so it cannot level a slab that has settled or lifted. Those problems need the slab raised, leveled, or replaced first, which is a different trade. If you have a sunken section next to sound concrete, we will tell you during the estimate, and the sound areas can often still be resurfaced once the problem section is dealt with.
Why not just patch the damaged spots?
Because patches almost never match. New repair material cures to a different color and texture than concrete that has been in the sun for years, so a patched patio usually looks worse than a damaged one. Resurfacing covers the whole surface out to its joint lines, so the result is one uniform color and finish. It also deals with the wear that is starting elsewhere on the slab, not just the spot that failed first.
Can I choose the color and texture?
Yes. Resurfacing can be finished smooth, broom textured, or with a slip-resistant texture, and it can be colored or stained afterward. In this area most people choose warm neutrals and earth tones that sit well against stucco and red rock, and lighter shades for anything walked on barefoot. We bring samples to the estimate, because color reads very differently in Southern Utah sun than it does indoors.
How soon can we walk on it or use the pool?
Foot traffic is usually fine about a day after the final coat, vehicles need longer on a resurfaced driveway, and the sealer on top needs its own cure before furniture or pool chemicals go back on it.
